Best Months for Ferry Travel in the Philippines

Updated Sep 30, 2026 · Philippines Ferry

Ferry reliability in the Philippines is strongly seasonal. Picking the right month matters as much as picking the right operator.

November to May: the reliable window

The amihan (northeast monsoon) season brings generally calmer seas on western routes and most of the Visayas. December–April is peak dry season: best reliability, but highest demand — Holy Week and Christmas sailings sell out far in advance.

June to October: typhoon months

The habagat season brings rougher seas and most of the year's typhoons. Sailings still run the majority of days, but cancellations cluster around storms. Build buffer days and check advisories before each leg.

Holiday pinch points

  • ▸ Holy Week: the single busiest ferry week of the year
  • ▸ Christmas–New Year: overnight routes from Manila sell out
  • ▸ All Saints'/Undas (Nov 1): heavy provincial traffic
  • ▸ Fiesta dates on destination islands: local spikes
